One day Consultation on Migration

 SDS-IPAC organized a  “One day Consultation on Migration”  on  26 th  March 2011  in New Delhi.  The objective of the Consultation was to share the views of various organisations and groups working on the issue of migrants ‘rights and the process of migration within the country. The one day consultation was aimed to look at the strategies to upfront the issues of migrants, the poor labourers and unorganised workers, and bring in some new ideas, suggestions and proposals for pro active policy instruments at the national level and state levels.  A  number of civil society organisations, human rights groups and public representatives participated from the states of Delhi, Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra in the consultation. FTC to Review Alcohol Advertising Self-Regulation Following the continued  proliferation  of alcohol advertising in social and traditional media outlets, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recently  announced plans  to conduct another review of the effectiveness of the alcohol industry's self-regulation of its own advertising campaigns. As noted in the Marin Institute's  2008 report  "Why Big Alcohol Can't Police Itself: A Review of Self-Regulation in the Distilled Spirits Industry," the industry's voluntary guidelines fail to protect underage youth from exposure to alcohol advertising. The FTC is currently  seeking public comment  until April 26, 2011 on the companies' compliance with ad placement provisions; status of third-party review of complaints; and industry data-collection practices. Opposing the Vienna Declaration

World Federation Against Drugs among others has made a joint statement in opposition to the Vienna Declaration. It wil be used during the CND meeting in VIenna in March 2011. Read the whole statement below. The criminalization of illicit drug use provides positive health and social benefits by deterring nonmedical use of substances that cause great harm to HIV/AIDSaffected individuals. The use of criminal justice sanctions that respect human rights and provide drug treatment services can accelerate an individual’s recovery from drug dependence and prevent drug-related harms to HIV/AIDSaffected individuals preventing its further proliferation. The criminal law against illegal drug use is a major public health strategy to reduce drug abuse and the many health, safety and productivity losses imposed by drug abuse. NADA .ADS workshop on use of ear acupuncture among prison inmates at Central Jail, Ahmadabad, Gujarat

NADA EAR ACUPUNCTURE PROTOCOL MEETS GLOBAL NEEDS                Training workshop on use of ear acupuncture as per NADA Protocol for addiction treatment and general well being   was organized by Nada India ,Prison Department Gujarat & Nada Gujarat Chapter    for Jail officials ,physicians ,nursing staff & NGOs  held at Central Jail,  Ahmadabad , Gujarat     on 27 th  &28 th  Jan 2011   .   The workshop was conducted by Dr. Michael O.
