NADA ADS Training invitation

Nada India Foundation  is pleased to announce the Training workshop on use of ear acupuncture as per NADA Protocol for addiction treatment and general well being for physicians and nursing staff to be held INDIAN SOCIAL INSTITUTE (Conference room number 411), 10, Institutional Area Lodhi Road New Delhi 110003 , Delhi on Sunday 23nd Jan .2011
( 10am-5pm). A pre-workshop visit to the peer led drug de-addiction program will be arranged on 22rd January, Saturday (Optional).     The workshop will be conducted by Dr. Michael O. Smith, Psychiatrist & Acupuncturist from Lincoln Hospital New York and facilitated by Suneel Vatsyayan (A brief is attached)
The workshop aims to facilitate a shared understanding of importance of barrier free services and skill in use ear acupuncture as an adjunct treatment at all stages of addiction treatment  (pre admission, detoxification and rehabilitation and after care).  This workshop also provides trainees with skills to use ear acupuncture (NADA Protocol three points) under general supervision of Dr. Michael O. Smith acupuncturist and psychiatrist .This also enables trainees in building greater confidence in producing effective approach in dealing with people who avoid treatment,  
The programme brief is discussed below. The course shall provide: 
• Class room inputs 
• Reading Material
• Hands on practice & 200 needles
• Complementary advisory and troubleshooting support services through electronic media or phone.

The registration fee for the workshop is Rs.2000/- (Two Thousand only) which includes a lunch, tea, two hundred needles for practice, a DVD containing presentation, course material and video on NADA protocol etc. and certificate  . A Brief about Dr. Michael O. Smith
a psychiatrist, certified addictionologist & acupuncturist 

Dr. Michael O. Smith is a psychiatrist, certified addictionologist. He did his psychiatric residency at Albert Einstein Medical School. Presently he is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Cornell Medical College and has been the Director of Lincoln Hospital Substance Abuse Division, New York since 1974. He is also on Educational Policy Committee of Lincoln Hospital.

He has pioneered the use of ear-acupuncture (NADA five point protocols) for addiction treatment and general well being at Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx New York for the past 35 years. This method is now used in more than 200 addiction treatment settings in the New York area and 1500 settings worldwide. Lincoln is also known for its successful women's program and as the model clinic for the drug court movement. He has written several textbook chapters in the addiction field. Dr. Smith has used acupuncture as an immune enhancement for AIDS patients. He has conducted a weekly AIDS clinic at GMHC New York, providing over 7,000 treatments in the past 14 years. Dr. Smith has also been recognized for pioneering work with acupuncture and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), steroid dependent asthma and multiple sclerosis. He received the first national leadership award of NADCP in 1995.
