International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2021

-Akshay Sharma

International Day Against Drug Abuse 2021 is observed to raise awareness among people about the dangerous effects of drugs and also, it's illicit trafficking. This special day is celebrated to make one another aware of the dangers of consuming drugs and also making an effort to free people from this harmful addiction.

On the account of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on 26th June 2021 organised by Ms Suhita Dugar, Chief Minister’s Good Governance associate, Jind and Haryana Police - Jind to promote wellbeing amongst the students in colleges and schools and aware the youth regarding the path of destruction one falls into if he or she chooses drugs as a companion in life!

The webinar was attended by very influential and learned individuals, providing an experience

of not only stories but the pain our community and nation has suffered due to the people who

lost the war against addiction to drugs!

Sh Waseem Akram IPS, SP Jind, Chief Guest of the Event brought in view, how the thieves

he’s come across have fallen into the trap of Drugs so deep that, just to keep them sober and alive was such a tough call,

as the withdrawal symptoms were too worse to handle and understand

how to tackle the situation! In return to the immensely ground moving conversation

Mr Suneel Vatsyayan, Chairperson, Nada India Foundation, Guest Speaker added “To improve the society we need to remove, ignorance from the social and educational institutions and provide in appropriate attention and importance to a child and nurture it to his or her fullest potential and encourage them to be a better individual and support humanity with a heart full of positivity and warmth”

Sh Waseem Akram ji chief guest for the Webinar underlined,” A family’s helplessness and use of drugs impacted social

violence at home scaring the little child to hide beneath a table in fear. The times when parents were supposed to give attention to nurture the precious soul they were showcasing devastating emotional tantrums leading the child to fall apart and opening a doorway to walk on a path of wrongdoings, agreeing to which Mr Vatsyayan added, “these are also known as Local Earthquake! And our home is the epicentre and the way the child hid herself in fear is usually the steps we initiate to protect ourselves from the destruction of earthquake”

“DON’T TALK, DON’T FEEL, DON’T ACT

Are the steps normally individual starts stepping into which not only breaks them from inside but also takes away their

courage to share their problems or issues faced by them!” highlighted Mr Vatsyayan.

Listening and sharing the thoughts resulted in the question of how chemicals are influential substances!

Under the provision of a Doctor, they are considered as Treatment of Patients!

And Under the supervision of our own choice and craving, the same chemicals are outlined as Addiction! Leading to

the convergent point of our analysis, is Pleasure equal to Happiness?

Understanding the scenario and the youth audience, the Karamveer Chakra awardee

beautifully explained, “ Pleasures our short-lived moments of joy and are created due to

the desires that continuously keep building up one after another whereas the happiness is

an infinite moment that stays with you for a lifetime and brings a smile to your face whenever you remember it!

For e.g Nicotine or a packet of Chips! As soon as the scarcity erupts, our cravings for the chemical increase and

are not satisfied until we smoke a cigarette or have a packet of chips!

Mr Waseem also shared his viewpoints on Stress Management, Annual Health Check-Ups and the presence of

such health reports online so we can take care of our people better! He added, “ I have even asked my team to

download a fitness app on the phone to keep a check on our routine and workout accordingly to be healthy!”

which was very much appreciated by each member of the meet as an initiation towards a  Healthy Haryana!

Listening to the initiation made by Mr Waseem, Mr Suneel shared his initiation for a wellbeing community

and advised all, “ Instead of looking at individuals influenced by drugs as criminals, look at them as patients”

Since he strongly believes, “ An individual is never weak, it's the circumstances in which he falls weak” leading

to a round of applause for the thought shared by the Guest Speaker!

The Webinar was overall an experience to learn key ways to initiate a conversation between us and our

stakeholders and how the experience we've come across needs to be shared for the betterment of the community!

We all always need to be accepting and open to learning from our surroundings and the people around us to

keep growing better and resulting in the best! We need to give opportunities to the youth to make a change,

Instead of shutting them away from important discussions!

The event was concluded by inviting all the attendees to promote wellbeing and lend out their support in

the initiative of Tobacco Free Haryana
