All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Jodhpur,Rajasthan
Dear Members of the National Task Force,
Subject: Support for the Supreme Court's Initiative on Grief and Crisis Counseling and Safety Measures for Medical Professionals
On behalf of the Nada Young India Network for Good Health, I wish to commend the Supreme Court for recognizing the critical importance of addressing grief and crises as a fundamental aspect of ensuring the well-being of medical professionals. We believe that acknowledging and connecting through our shared human experiences is essential in fostering a compassionate and supportive environment within our healthcare system.
At Nada India, we have long been advocates for emotional connection as a powerful tool in crisis intervention. Through our training programs, we have equipped social workers and members of law enforcement agencies with the skills to provide peer-based and other non pharmacological support during emotional crises, which, if unaddressed, can escalate into severe mental health issues. We believe that connecting with individuals on an emotional level, without judgment or the imposition of beliefs, allows for the exploration of new perspectives and the creation of new hope.
We are particularly encouraged by the Supreme Court's decision to constitute a National Task Force to address safety, working conditions, and the overall well-being of medical professionals. We fully support the following recommendations:
Grief and Crisis Counseling:
- The employment of social workers trained in grief and crisis counseling at all medical establishments.
- The implementation of workshops for all medical staff, including doctors, nurses, and support staff, to effectively manage grief and crisis situations.
Employee Safety Committees:
- The formation of "Employee Safety Committees" at every medical establishment, composed of doctors, interns, residents, and nurses, to conduct regular safety audits and ensure institutional safety measures are upheld.
It is crucial to recognize that the relationship between patients, doctors, and professional social workers is built on shared risk and responsibility. This shared commitment to the well-being of individuals and society makes it imperative for organizations like the National Association of Professional Social Workers in India (NAPSWI) and allied groups like Nada India Foundation to uphold these values. By fostering healthy and safe environments in both educational and medical establishments, we can create a more supportive and resilient society.
We are confident that the National Task Force, under the guidance of the Supreme Court, will develop effective recommendations that not only enhance the safety and working conditions of medical professionals but also promote the emotional well-being of all individuals involved in healthcare. We stand ready to support these efforts and collaborate in any capacity to help achieve these goals.
Thank you for your attention to this critical matter. We look forward to the positive changes that this Task Force will bring to the healthcare system in India.
Yours sincerely,
